Getting our Passions all mixed up…
As many of us grapple with the quest for fulfilment in our daily lives, we often fixate on the journey of uncovering our true passion.
It is a conversation I find myself having on repeat, as individuals ponder whether happiness resides in their passion and wonder if they will ever stumble upon it, and what form it might take. They explore avenues like music, art, cooking, fitness, entrepreneurship, or alternative therapies, tirelessly searching for it, only to find themselves defeated among countless unturned stones, no closer to their destination.
But the truth is, your passion likely already exists in your life, subtly making its presence known each week. It just may not manifest in the form of music, art, or a culinary masterpiece.
Passion isn't always confined to a single hobby or skill; it's more like a recurring theme that can manifest in various ways.
Let me illustrate with my own experience. My passion is supporting others. Even before I pursued it as a career, I found myself naturally drawn to assisting others, going above and beyond without even realising it. My reading choices often revolve around self help or stories of people’s journeys. I gravitate toward documentaries and social media content focused on acts of kindness, stories of comebacks, overcoming great feats and it's a frequent topic of my daydreams.
Now, I'm not claiming to be a saint. I help because it brings me immense joy and fulfilment. Every time I make a positive impact on someone's life, I experience nearly as much satisfaction as they do—it's as if their success is my own. That's how I know it's my passion.
But understanding my passion isn't a one-dimensional revelation with a single outcome. It's not limited to being a Wellbeing Coach. I previously founded a fitness business, which brought me great fulfilment by supporting people on their journey to optimal health. And I'm confident that if these avenues hadn't been available to me, I would have found fulfilment in other pursuits, like working in welfare to work, becoming a mum, starting more wellbeing businesses or working as a therapist in the NHS, helping individuals overcome challenging experiences. Because passion isn't confined to one form; it's a versatile theme that can manifest in myriad ways.
So, before you resume your search among the stones, take a moment to reflect on your own life and what naturally draws you in—perhaps without even realising it. You may just discover that your passion or theme lies closer than you think.
