No One Coaches On Instagram
The number one rule to being an effective coach is that it's not about you, it’s about those who you are coaching.
This topic seems to be confusing on both Instagram and other social media channels. Social Media Coaches mainly focus on their own “Content”; what they have to teach and tell the world. I am all for teaching but that’s not coaching.
Teaching is disseminating information by mostly one way communication.
Coaching is unlocking the potential to maximise performance through two-way communication.
Coaching is not a one size fits all approach and therefore cannot be rolled out in an online course, webinar or Insta Live setting.
A Coach’s role is to bring out the best in an individual. This is achieved through their ability to easily build rapport and trust. To grasp the areas of required development & growth. And to understand what motivates the individual to achieve. This creates an effective working relationship where the Coach supports the individual to reach their potential and maximise their performance.
This cannot be achieved through posting and selling content online. It concerns me when I see Instagram Coaches spending much of their time focusing on promoting their own profile. In my experience a Coach’s time is best spent “on the job”, working with individuals where there will always be new learnings and evolution in their own practice.
I am not dismissing the fact they have to market themselves. However, the best type of marketing for a Coach is ‘Word of Mouth’. If they focus on their “craft”, they won’t have to spend their time promoting on social media. The reality is, a Coach’s USP, is not marketable on social media. It can only be achieved when they interact with an individual. It’s through these personal interactions it become clear if they can coach the individual to success.
